NRA Basic CCW (for New Jersey)
Short Description:
Teaches the basic knowledge, use of force requirement, and attitude necessary to apply for a concealed carry pistol permit for New Jersey. This class also includes the opportunity to shoot Pistol Qualification (live -fire) required to apply for a New Jersey CCW permit. While the NRA states, “The NRA Basic CCW Course is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation”, this statement applies to the classroom component only. The live-fire Pistol Qualification as required by the State of New Jersey is not for beginners, students must be prepared to shoot the qualification safely without coaching. Please read all information before registering and consider taking the Qualification Pre-Shoot Lesson or NJ CCW Pistol Qualification Tutorial when enrolling in this class.

S.A.F.E. Academy NRA Basic CCW class takes place in both a classroom and range environment. The course is usually taught via a two day format, Saturday is the classroom component and Sunday is range day where students shoot the NJ CCW Pistol Qualification. Saturday course topics may include include: Firearm Safety (Mandatory), Pistol Nomenclature, Selecting a Pistol for Self-Defense, Basic Defensive Pistol Skills, Drawing from Concealment, Loading and Stoppage Remediation, Mindset, Carry Modes and Pistol Concealment, Firearm Cleaning, and Sport Shooting and Training Activities. Course length is determined by the Instructor, to meet requirements for a NJ CCW permit. On Sunday students will be on the range to complete the NJ CCW Pistol Qualification with an NRA Certified Instructors. Students are encourage to enroll in the Qualification Pre-Shoot Lesson for an additional cost of $125.
Students will receive reference materials, take a NRA Basic CCW and New Jersey Use of Force Examination. Upon successful completion of the course students receive (1) NRA Basic CCW course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary, (2) New Jersey Use of Force Sign-Off and (3) New Jersey Pistol Qualification Letter of Completion with accuracy score, all documents are signed by your NRA Certified Instructor.
WARNING- The NJSP has not set a specific state provision for training. Therefore, the CCW application requirements are subject to change at any time without notice and may change post course completion.

Saturday is the NRA Basic CCW Course 9:00A to 4:00PM at the Best Western Hotel, 650 Kaighns Ave, Pennsauken, NJ location
Sunday students shoot the NJCCW Pistol Qualification 8:30AM to 11:00AM at Double Tap Range, Phila PA (about 15min from Pennsauken)
NRA Basic CCW Class Fee: $225 includes Saturday Class and Range Fee on Sunday.
Students failing the NJ CCW Pistol Qualification may re-shoot at a later date, the fee is $100 plus $25 range fee (range fee is paid directly to Double Tap Range).

Please read the class description and understand the requisite skillset required to shoot the NJ CCW Qualification before registering. Class tuition is non-refundable, students cancelling 14 days prior to class can apply 100% of fee to another class, students cancelling after 14 days prior to class will be given 50% credit to be applied to another class (includes private lessons).
S.A.F.E. Training Pistol Qualification Course of Fire: Total 50 Rounds: 10 rounds @ 25 yards, 10 rounds @ 15 yards, 10 rounds @ 10 yards, 12 rounds @ 7 yards, 8 rounds @ 5 yards: Strings of fire will start with the pistol low ready position and all courses of fire are timed. FBI Q target. Must be shot with pistol the student legally owns. Magazine changes are required, students must be able to safely change magazines during the timed course of fire. Students can qualify with 2 pistols, there is a fee ($75) to qualify with second pistol.
Pistol Qualification Training Tip; most students struggle with magazine exchanges (Speed Reload: Handgun Technique) required on several strings of fire and keeping all shorts at 25 yards on paper- meaning shots miss the entire target in addition to missing the silhouette which results in disqualification. Students may re-shoot the NJ CCW Qualification ($100 fee + $25 range fee) at later date. Students are encouraged to watch the Speed Reload: Handgun Technique and please practice, practice, practice before attempting to shoot the NJ CCW Qualification with SAFE Academy or any instructor.

Pistol: Semi-Automatic Pistol or Revolver you intend to carry and legally own
Minimum of three magazines or three speed loaders (for revolvers). PLEASE READ No exceptions will be made, students showing up to shoot the qualification without the required number of magazines or speed loaders will have to reschedule.
Magazine pouch - Holds at least two spare mags
50 Rounds of quality ammo for each pistol used to qualify (limit 2 pistols and there is a fee to qualify with a second pistol)
No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used at any time
Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
Ear Protection - Electronic Highly Recommended
Pen and paper- There are 2 tests
Clothing suitable for training in any weather, pants must have belt loops

Qualification Pre-Shoot Lesson
Short Description:
Opportunity to warm up, practice and get coached prior to shooting the NJ CCW Pistol Qualification. While the NRA Basic CCW Course is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience the live-fire NJ CCW Pistol Qualification is not for beginners. Students must be prepared to shoot at various distances up to 25 years, execute magazine changes, manage malfunctions and safely shoot the qualification without coaching. If you have not shot your pistol regularly consider the attending the 1 hour Qualification Pre-Shoot Lesson.

The Qualification Pre-Shoot Lesson is held 8:00AM - 9:00AM on Sunday prior to the official NJ CCW Pistol Qualification. Students will receive instruction from NRA Certified Instructors that will coach students on proper grip, stance, trigger control, sight alignment and sight picture. The lesson will conclude with practicing the NJ CCW Pistol Qualification with coaching. Upon conclusion of the Qualification Pre-Shoot Lesson students will be familiar with shooting the actual NJ CCW Pistol Qualification held from 9:00AM - 10:00AM.

NRA Basic Pistol
Short Description:
The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation. S.A.F.E. Academy offers this class in the traditional, instructor-led course format where students receive direct instruction from an NRA-certified instructor from beginning to end. The class is taught in a two day format where Saturday is the classroom component and Sunday is spend at the range and students put to practice what they learned on Saturday safely handling a pistol and learning how to shoot.

On Saturday course topics include: gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, pistol selection and storage, shooting fundamentals, pistol inspection and maintenance, marksmanship, and shooting range safety. On Sunday students will complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor. Students will receive the NRA Guide: Basics of Pistol Shooting Handbook, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and your NRA Certified Instructor.

NRA Firearm Home Safety
Short Description:
Non-shooting course and teaches students the basic knowledge, skills, and to explain the attitude necessary for the safe handling and storage of firearms and ammunition in the home.
More Details:
This is a four-hour course for safe gun handling that is conducted in the classroom only. Students are taught NRA’s three rules for safe gun handling; primary causes of firearms accidents; firearm parts; how to unload certain action types; ammunition components; cleaning; care; safe storage of firearms in the home; and the benefits of becoming an active participant in the shooting sports. Students will receive the NRA Home Firearm Safety handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, course completion certificate.
